Acadia National Park, Mt Desert Island, Maine

What a nice week we had on Mt Desert Island in Maine, home of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Just as beautiful as it was the first two summers we visited.

This year we decided to take the dog. First and last time. She did pretty well actually. We all grew comfortable with her laying in between seats in the minivan. No need to crate her in the car anymore.

But she was such a nervous little beagle -- I don't think she enjoyed the trip per se. She was probably just glad to be with us. She wasn't interested in the water. She did gamely march up a mountain with us. Poor dog... she was so exhausted that her tongue swelled up and turned purple. Lesson learned.

We stayed at Bass Harbor Campground again, in a nice little cabin. It had electricity, microwave oven, several bunk beds. The bathroom was about 30 yards away.

Building the campfire each night was fun. Roasted marshmallows, too!

As family vacations are meant to do, we bonded.

We spent the last few days with friends from Hingham who happened to be on the island at the same time. Their kids and our kids explored a beach on Bar Harbor together. They found thousands of tiny shrimp. Cool!
